This readme file describes the supplementary material that accompanies the article "Internalizing Global Value Chains: A Firm-Level Analysis", Journal of Political Economy. These are intended to serve as a guide for replicating the Tables that are reported, both in the main paper and in the Supplementary Appendix.

The empirical analysis uses confidential plant level data which we acquired through a confidentiality agreement, so we are unable to disclose any firm-level data. The data was purchased from Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). We purchased establishment records for which ISIC data was available. Data can be purchased from D&B (www.dnb.com. tel: (855) 855-2881). Authors can also contact Dennis Jacques. Advanced Data Technology Inc. 2800 Diamond Hill Road. Cumberland, Rhode Island 02864-4111. Direct: 401 333-9182. email: d.f.jacques@att.net.

Programs (do files) were written in Stata 14.

The do files titled "TableX", where X runs from 1 to 5, generate the corresponding tables in the main paper.

The do files titled "AppTableX", where X runs from 1 to 18, generate the corresponding Appendix Tables.

Details on the construction of the respective variables can be found in the main paper, as well as in the Data Appendix that accompanies the main paper.

We have included several dta files and do files that relate to the construction of the variables, for interested readers.
